Quota in Private Sector ?
There is an article in TOI about PM proposing quota for jobs in private sector.
Where is India heading with all this ? You just can’t keep on bringing in reservations into every field and every sector. First reservations are brought in and then the allocated quota is increased. Quota for government jobs is for the government to decide, but why are they imposing all these restrictions on the private sector ? It’s already bad enough that people who are not good enough are passing out from engineering and medical colleges, and now you want the same thing happening to private sector too…
One of the major reasons why public sector is lagging far behind the private sector is the fact that there is reservation and quotas in public sector. Whatever the government funds, be it industries, companies, small businesses, colleges etc., government can/should decide how it wants to handle it. But why should it meddle with the private sector ? The driving force behind private sector companies is to increase profits and this is something that can not be expected if they start employing sub-standard workforce.
As far as I know, nothing much has happened by bringing in this whole system. There have been opportunities created for people from SC/ST and OBC backgrounds, but mostly they have not been utilised properly.
We should be looking at educating the best of the human resource we have and invest in those that will return the goods. You don’t want doctors who just manage to get into a medical college because they qualified quota. They are a danger to society. You don’t want engineers who aren’t creative or whose knowledge base is not sound enough.
I for one believe that everyone has his/her own place in this world. If someone is not qualified enough to do a job, there is no use putting him up to it. The idea should never be to support SC/ST or OBCs… it should be to support economically backward people. Give aid to people who need it to goto good schools and colleges. Give aid to these people to prepare for getting into such places. Don’t just let them in when they don’t deserve it.
I am totally against this move of the government to bring in job quotas in the private sector. People in industries and companies work in groups and teams. How are people expected to work with those who they cant consider their peers ??
Again, the idea should not be to make it easy for these people to get jobs in private sector or seats in colleges. The idea should be to help them reach a point where they can, on their own, get these jobs and admissions.
p.s. I have no issues with people from SC/ST/OBC backgrounds, but I will never be able to fully respect a person who used his SC/ST/OBC status to get an admission or a job.
BlogCounter.com
I had been hearing from my friends that there were pop-ups opening up every time they went to my blog. At first I didn’t agree cause it never happened with me. The reason was that i always use Firefox with the AdBlock extension. But when I tried opening the site in IE, the pop-ups did indeed appear.
I have been making a lot of changes to this site, so I went through and started checking all the new Javascript and php files that I had added. One of the new things added was a counter from BlogCounter.com, which was the culprit. I didn’t read the terms and conditions before installing it. It clearly says:
4. Advertisement
4.1 The user agrees to the fading in of advertisement banners, advertisement texts, pop-up windows and pop-down windows during the use of the services provided by Blogcounter.com.
4.2 Blogcounter.com reserves the right to modify the respective advertisement form without prior notification.
So the moral of the story is
-
Read the terms and conditions before signing up with a service (something that I never do)
Installed Limit Post plugin
Posted by Nalin in Applications, WWW on April 17, 2006
Up until now all the content of a post was being displayed on the index page. I didn’t like it that way and wanted each post to display only a certain number of characters and then have a link to the whole post. There is way to make it work when you use wordpress to create the posts, but I usually don’t do that. Even this post is being made using Blogjet. So I googled and found this plugin which does exactly that…
The only issue is that it’s not been implemented correctly. After certain posts that are truncated with certain HTML tags open, the rest of the document looses it’s formatting, usually getting italicised. I fixed the issue (partly) by editing the plugin. I changed line 40 from echo "'>".$more_link_text."</a></p>";
to echo "'>".$more_link_text."</a></em></strong></p>";
This ensure that the open tags for making the text italic and/or bold get closed for sure. It’s a very dirty hack, but has worked for me so far. Also, if you need your site to be valid for XHTML at all times, this is surely not the hack or even the plugin for you.
Being Cyrus
Heard a lot about this movie and was really expecting a lot out of it… and I guess thats the reason why I was a little disappointed. This movie has been publicised as a dark comedy. It is definitely a dark flick, but I couldn’t see much of comedy in it. Boman Irani has over acted a bit but Saif has again given a very good performance. He has narrated the movie too.
It’s is a movie away from the main stream cinema and I guess that makes watching it worthwhile. Even though this movie is in English, to really enjoy it, you need to watch it with subtitles if you don’t know Marathi Gujarati. I give it 6.5/10.
V for Vendetta
A good movie. watch it. 7.5/10.
Taxi No. 9211
Nana Pathekar rocks in this movie. Nice comedy about a day in the lives of a few ppl and how the events of that day, changed their lives forever. You need to be a mumbaiya or subtitles to really understand all the dialogues in the movie.
I enjoyed watching it. I give it 7/10.
Installed UTW3 for Tags
Posted by Nalin in Applications, WWW on April 14, 2006
I finally replaced WP Taggerati plugin with Ultimate Tag Warrior 3 because it’s much more powerful. WP Taggerati would serve the needs of beginners, but if you want real control and a lot of features, UTW is the plugin in to go for…
To make sure that everything works fine, I did the following:
- Removed the php code for displaying Tags from WP Taggerati from the theme files
- Deactivated the plugin and deleted it (optional).
- Activated UTW3.
- I went phpMyAdmin and I removed the three tables created by WP Taggerati
- Then, using phpMYAdmin, I updated the strings <itag> and </itag> to [ tags ] and [ /tags ] respectivly for all the posts. The former custom HTML tags are used by WP Taggerati to define tags, where as the latter are used by UTW.
NOTE: I could have modified UTW’s php code too, but I didn’t want to use the ‘<itag>’ format. I searched a bit and found the information on how to replace the strings on LiewCF.com. - Just went into Options -> Tags -> Manage Tags and Imported the embedded Tags.
- Added the code into the theme files where ever needed. I also had to tweak a lot of setting to make the Tag Archive, Tags Archive and Search work.
…and now everything works perfectly…
Ford Focus
Drove this car around last weekend… It has a great pick-up, but when it comes to handling, it leaves you wanting more stability. One thing that noticed in this car was the feature that allows unlocking the hood from inside. It was damn funny when I saw it. It’s the first time I have seen it in any car… Kenny told me that it’s a very common feature, but I was still excited about it.
In the evening I was telling Monil about it and we actually tried it by locking ourselves inside. Here’s a pic of Monil all excited…
just what I (and everyone) needed…
