Was watching North by Northwest and the ending of the movie revolves around Mt. Rushmore, South Dakota… It just so happens that my friends have pulled me into a plan to goto Mt. Rushmore coming weekend… what a coincidence… Let’s see if I will be able to do all that they showed happening in the movie…
btw… this happens to be my 117th movie of the IMDB Top 250 list… he he…
I have been applying for jobs lately and every now and then I get calls from recruiters. Sometimes when I miss these calls, all I see is a 10 digit number without any idea of where the call came from. Yes… yes.. people do leave voice-mails, but at times they are not enough…
So… I just searched a bit and found that there are many sites providing this service. Two that I really liked were
- Number Administration System
- Phone Location Lookup at MelissaData
Good service… comes in handy every now and then…
Nice movie… worth a watch… won’t say that it’s the best Pixar has made, but it’s worth a watch. More info here.
A nice (well… no more…) friend of mine sent me a link http://www.geocities.com/joke_of_the_day_3_4/ . I unlike usual, followed that link thinking that it was what it said.
What you see there is a Login Page for using the Yahoo! Flickr service. I didn’t understand why it was there, but cause my brain wasn’t working after studying for hours, I simply put in my login and password. And guess what ??? I got suckered… It took me to some weird page…
Then I realized what a dumb thing I had done. I actually mailed my login and password to someone sitting in Japan. Had to kick myself for a while and then change passwords for all the accounts that had the same password.
Going though the page source I found that the email address getting all this info was accountshere_2@yahoo.com. Guessing by that, I am sure this nice human being has more such pages set up. Also saw that (s)he is using a CGI script hosted at www2.fiberbit.net. Checked the WHOIS Db and found it is registered to some F Bit Communications Corp in Kyoto, Japan. Anyways… have sent a few nice words to the email address above… X-(
Just to show what how the whole thing works… I have copied the source and you can goto it here on my site. I have changed the form a bit. Just enter any email (full email, not just the user-id) in the username textfield and any text you want in the password text field. After hitting submit, you can go and check the email address you provided. You will see the exact info that you provided.
I feel like such a jackass right now… Having spent almost all my time for the last so many years online, I still fell for this one… People around the world, keep getting suckered every freaking day… one really has to be very careful while browsing the www. It’s a bad bad world out there. I did go ahead and fill up a form on Yahoo! to let them know of this page. There’s a lot of shit on Geocities and Yahoo! isn’t doing anything about it… this and the fact that it took me sooo much time to find that General Abuse Form, really pissed me off.
UPDATE: my friend didn’t send it. I got it as an offline, so I assumed that he had. It is actually some sort of a virus… I am sure many people others got it too then…
ANOTHER UPDATE: Got a reply from people at Yahoo!. They have taken the necessary action, i.e. removed the site within 3 hrs of notifying them… hmm.. nice..
Thank you for informing us of possible abuse on Yahoo! GeoCities. We have investigated the site and taken the necessary action. We appreciate your concern and thank you for reporting this incident to Yahoo!.
You can still see what the page was like here.
Just finished watching all the 6 episodes of Star Wars… they are simply amazing…
I had been wanting to find out for a long time what the who deal was with Star wars… finally decided to watch em and now that I have watched them, I realized that the series is simply amazing. I haven’t seen see any other movie (well… Rocky series), that has had sequels that are either as good, or even better than that original movie.
The episodes 4,5 and 6 were made first and then episode 1, 2 and 3 followed. I was talking to my roomie and he wanted to decide what order to watch these movies in… as usual, just googled it and saw that more or less people are divided over it. So I decided on watching 4, 5, 6 followed by 1, 2 and 3. I must say, it was a wise choice… firstly, movies make more sense that way and after watching the effects and graphics of the newer movies, I am sure I wouldn’t have enjoyed the previous ones.
The only downfall of this approach was that I had to kind of make myself sit through some parts of episode 1 and 2. The other 4 episodes are simply amazing and throughly enjoyable. A little attention and everything makes sense, plus everything is sooooo fast paced…
I am telling you, the 12 odd hours that you are going to spend on watching these movies are going to be definitely worth it…
For more information you can check out IMDB.com or starwars.com.
Here’s a list of the movies:
- Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (1999)
- Episode 2: Attack of the Clones (2002)
- Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
- Episode 4: A New Hope (1977)
- Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
- Episode 6: Return of the Jedi (1983)
p.s. I have been doing all this when I should be preparing for interviews, working on project report… have to stop following the heart… and use my freakin brains
Was just checking out the site and saw this section on Orkut Demographics. Apparently, it’s been there for a long time, just that I never happened to notice it. Gives a good indication on who’s using orkut and how they are using it. Check the image below to see the latest information…
It was quite surprising to see that Brazil leads the list of origin of Orkut users… Googled it a bit and realized that there more that a few reasons for it. Desis have only recently started using this site, but I am sure that our share is going to grow at a fast pace.
Another thing that came to my mind was all the talk about how Google is turning evil… and that sites like orkut and digg are going to serve as nothing but instruments to end our privacy. It is… actually… kinda scary…
I have finally realized it… I don’t know if it’s too late… but I am going to get out of this…
First of all, please let me tell you how much I love Azureus… it’s just great… simply amazing… There’s another bittorrent client, utorrent, which is pretty kewl cause it comes in a single small file that doesn’t even need to be installed… but I prefer Azureus cause it seems to have better performance and support for plug-ins.
About a month back I installed the Advanced Statistics plug-in for Azureus. As the name suggests, it gives advanced statistics about the torrents being downloaded and the overall process… in short, a lot of figures and graphs… going though the recorded statistics, I have realized that I suffer from some serious problem. I guess there are many others out there… but I personally think, I have let things get way out of hands. To see what I am talking about, open the thumbnail below…
As it shows, in the last 42 days and 11 hours, I have downloaded about 92.79 GB of data. Shame on me that during the same time I have only uploaded 55.40 GB… that works out to about 2.2 GB/day download and 1.3 GB/day upload… Also, since I installed this plug-in some 25 days back, I have downloaded about 57 GB…
Some more stats… other than a few very low values, the minimum downloaded data size has been 1.17 GB (05/11/06) and maximum around 4.78 GB (06/02/06), in a single day… Lately, since I found out about this problem, I have stopped downloading as much and just trying to see the stuff that I can.
Another thought that crosses my mind is that this is just the stuff I get off torrents… there a whole lot more downloading that keeps happening now and then on the side…
I have decided… NO MORE of this downloading anymore… very limited and only the necessary things… don’t want to get into any kind of shit…
p.s. while you are at getting Azureus installed or checking out the Advanced Statistics plug-in… also check out the 3D view and Auto Speed plug-in
