Long long time ago…
Man…. it’s been ages since I have had a look at my site. I have been just too busy with work and lazy the rest of the time. My last post was on July 29th…
Finally, I upgraded to WP 2.3.1 tonight. As you can see (or might see), I am using the default WP theme right now as HemingwayEx doesn’t work with this version. I have been getting a lot of emails from people regarding this theme and many ppl have been enthu enough to go ahead and fix the theme to work with 2.3 as well. Hopefully, I will find sometime this weekend and do some work on it and answer questions in the forum.
Currently, I am eagerly looking forward to Dec and Jan. Both are going to be very eventful months. I am leaving for a three week trip to India in December and have other things coming up in Jan. Other than that, life is going on as usual… busy as hell on weekdays and boring/sad on weekends…
peace…
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows
I finished reading this last night and it left me with mixed feelings. I was happy to have finally finished reading all the Harry Potter novels, but I didn’t really enjoy the last book much. I had figured that after all these years, at 17, Harry Potter would be closer to being a proper hero, not the usual messed up dude, who can’t survive without his friends help. I was expecting him to take more responsibility and see his buddies relying on him.
But, the story was good. There is a good and reasonable (?) explanation for everything that happens. It does get quite complicated during the end with the reasoning for how he survives or why elder wand belongs to him, but then again, this series stopped being children’s novel a long time ago. I was quite ready to see Harry die, but because I had seen Bedazzled, I thought this self-less act of offering himself to he-who-must-not-be-named, would eventually save him
.
One thing that I really liked was that Rowling inserted the last chapter with describing Harry’s life 19 years later. It just makes a lot of sense as this way, no one is going to expect her to write another Harry Potter 8. I just hope someone else doesn’t start writing about how Harry saves the world again at 45, which has been the case with Robert Ludlum’s character Jason Bourne.
In the end, I have loved reading Harry Potter novels more than anything else I have ever read.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Finished reading this last night and it left me quite sad… I already knew that Dumbledore would die in the novel, but still… Anyways… I am happy to have finished reading all the novels as now I can peacefully take a break from this series… It’s quite stupid but I have actually started thinking how much better my life would be with all the magic described in the books. It’s something like wanting to have the Staple’s EASY button.
One thing that was good about this novel was that it wasn’t as difficult a read as the one before it… In The Order of the Phoenix, it was heart wrenching to be in Harry’s shoes all the time… He was portrayed as being so very helpless… but in this novel at least thats not the case. Also, this novel makes for a good setting for the next and the last novel.
There are many rumors going around about how it’s all going to end… I find myself discussing it now and again with people… well… everyone will come to know in July…
Citibank credit line increase
Sometime back I went to my Citibank credit card’s online site and saw this neat feature. One can request a credit line increase with a click of a button and they get back to you instantly. It’s a feature that you can use once in about six months. Once you get an increase, you can request more incerease, but for that you need to fill up a form. Anyways, for this card, I just got a credit line increase. Here’s a screenshot of the page.
My Home
A couple of days back, I posted pics of a place I would never want to step into. And this is why…
I have been staying here now for over two months and still managed to keep it neat and clean
Also, I must mention, I am sharing the apartment with a roomie, who has a bed-bath of his own… so it’s a pretty neat and big place. I like to believe that we are living like kings !!
200
I came to know yesterday that a new weighing scale had been placed in the men’s restroom in one of our office buildings. It had been a while since I had been trying to step on to one, so last evening after workout, I went ahead and weighed myself…
And…. I weigh 200 lbs… well… the scale showed 200.5 once and then 201 when I had a can of Gatorade in my hand
So, 200 lbs is approximately 91 kgs. I had never imagined that I would reach such a weight. All my life I have been thin as a stick. In my two years during my Master’s I did put on weight and that was largely expected. Last time when I weight myself at the guy, the figure was 187 lbs. That was about 8 months back.
I attribute all this weight to just sitting in office and working all the time. And, also to owning a car now. I have hardly walked, let alone exercise. I might have walked in two months here in Sunnyvale, what I might in 2 days in Chicago.
ok… having made a big deal about this 200 figure, I must say that it’s not all that bad. It’s the upper limit of weight range that I fall under. I just have to make sure that I work out and convert all this excess fat that i have added on, into muscles… I have been going to my company’s fitness boot camp for about 3 weeks now… it’s been fun and I am sure it’s going to help in the long run.

I cooked !
Weekends can be sooo boring… that they can drive one to cook !
Finally… after a gap of 8 months, I cooked today. It wasn’t that I was forced or anything. Just that I got bored of eating out all the time and it was a weekend and I had nothing better to do. Went to the nearest shop to pick up some frozen parathas and dishes, and in the process also picked up pulses.
Cooked rice and lobiya (Black-eyed beans), and everything came out well. I have always cooked for 3-4 people, so deciding on the quantities of salt and spices was a little difficult…
Anyways, I cooked !! It’s an important day for Makar-kind… It’s the start of a new beginning !!! I thought of taking pics, but I that would have been a bit too much
Why is everyone getting married ?
I have finally reached that age when everyone around me is
1. Married,
2. Getting married, or
3. Is planning on getting married soon.
I go to office and most of my team members are married (and even have kids). It sometimes just gets difficult relating to them. I have friends who are in serious relationships and have started thinking about it. There are also many in my small circle who are actually getting married. I am happy for them because they are happy, but other than that nothing makes me happy about the whole situation. Nowadays, the question, "So… when are you getting married ?", with a wicked smile, has become a very common question that I end up asking my friends.
It’s just weird being 24… my folks haven’t been pressing me much as of now, ’cause they do realize that I am still a kid… but I think I remember my dad mentioning that 26 is a good age !!
I have been trying to make it clear to them (and to the world, thru this post, I guess) that as of now, to me, 28-29 seems like a perfect age… If this changes, only time will tell… There’s so much more to life than settling down…
And, what is the point of this post ?? well, like most of my other posts, this one too is pointless… just some thoughts in my head that I want to get out…
peace…
Welcome back Nalin !
Just like the title of my last post, I departed from the blogosphere. Just don’t know why but haven’t been able to sit down and write anything for the last couple of months. Even today, I wrote the first line of this entry and then wasted 45 mins doing something or the other before I made myself sit down again.
Anyway, a lot has happened at my end in the last couple of months. I had two offers of job and I made the obvious choice and moved to Sunnyvale, CA. Have been working for VMware as a QA Engineer II and been learning a lot of new things. It’s just (almost) the kind of work I would have liked to get into. Lots of coding amongst other things. And everything related to Java.
Sunnyvale is a nice place to stay. A lot of Indian Restaurants here… which means I almost always eat out… which in turn means I have put on a lot of weight… have to start working it off soon before things get from bad to worse.
Also, I have rented a lovely 2 Bed 2 Bath apartment with a roomie that I did my Master’s with. Furnished my room just the way I wanted. Bought a TV and a couch for the drawing room…. just what’s needed… will post the pics sometime soon…
And bought my first car… a new 2007 Toyota Camry, that I love to drive… Nice to have my very own car…
I am pretty much settled here now. The weekdays are way too busy and the weekends get boring at times… but life is good… Get by the weekends by watching movies and sleeping… the last two weekends were really nice. Went to Las Vegas and Chicago…
ok… will go get some sleep now… take care peeps…
Finally…
Name of the person in this post has been changed to protect her privacy…. lol… (yeah right !!)
Anyway… a few days back I was finally able to get Noniyani pissed… she rarely gets angered, but I achieved the feat after a lot of hard work…
So.. this is what she had to say:
After a day… poor girl felt so bad… and said:
and another 10 mins…
he he…
p.s. got my new Nokia 6682 with Cingular… voice recorder is good…
