Welcome back Nalin !
Just like the title of my last post, I departed from the blogosphere. Just don’t know why but haven’t been able to sit down and write anything for the last couple of months. Even today, I wrote the first line of this entry and then wasted 45 mins doing something or the other before I made myself sit down again.
Anyway, a lot has happened at my end in the last couple of months. I had two offers of job and I made the obvious choice and moved to Sunnyvale, CA. Have been working for VMware as a QA Engineer II and been learning a lot of new things. It’s just (almost) the kind of work I would have liked to get into. Lots of coding amongst other things. And everything related to Java.
Sunnyvale is a nice place to stay. A lot of Indian Restaurants here… which means I almost always eat out… which in turn means I have put on a lot of weight… have to start working it off soon before things get from bad to worse.
Also, I have rented a lovely 2 Bed 2 Bath apartment with a roomie that I did my Master’s with. Furnished my room just the way I wanted. Bought a TV and a couch for the drawing room…. just what’s needed… will post the pics sometime soon…
And bought my first car… a new 2007 Toyota Camry, that I love to drive… Nice to have my very own car…
I am pretty much settled here now. The weekdays are way too busy and the weekends get boring at times… but life is good… Get by the weekends by watching movies and sleeping… the last two weekends were really nice. Went to Las Vegas and Chicago…
ok… will go get some sleep now… take care peeps…
Performancing Extension for Firefox
Posted by Nalin in Applications, WWW on April 20th, 2006
This is just a test post… Trying to use Performancing extension of Firefox… seems like a very kewl extension.
BlogCounter.com
I had been hearing from my friends that there were pop-ups opening up every time they went to my blog. At first I didn’t agree cause it never happened with me. The reason was that i always use Firefox with the AdBlock extension. But when I tried opening the site in IE, the pop-ups did indeed appear.
I have been making a lot of changes to this site, so I went through and started checking all the new Javascript and php files that I had added. One of the new things added was a counter from BlogCounter.com, which was the culprit. I didn’t read the terms and conditions before installing it. It clearly says:
4. Advertisement
4.1 The user agrees to the fading in of advertisement banners, advertisement texts, pop-up windows and pop-down windows during the use of the services provided by Blogcounter.com.
4.2 Blogcounter.com reserves the right to modify the respective advertisement form without prior notification.
So the moral of the story is
-
Read the terms and conditions before signing up with a service (something that I never do)
Qumana Blogging Software
Posted by Nalin in Applications, WWW, Windows on March 26th, 2006
The first and the last post using this software, well at least till they make this application a lot better. The good part is that Qumana is FREE and is better than most other blogging tools that I have come across. This software works for Windows and Macs. The bad part is that it lacks things such as options to change timestamp, adding images as thumbnails and adding custom tags.

The blog has moved
Finally I found the time (and more importantly the will) to move this blog… I was updating the blog version to v2.0.1 and thought that I may as well move the blog. Had been planning to do it for ages now and finally got down to doing it today. So now instead of accessing my blog thru the URL http://www.nalinmakar.com, one just has to goto the root URL i.e. http://nalinmakar.com.
I plan to use this blog itself to manage all my information. How will it all work out is something that I havent thought of till now.

Why ? Why do people blog ?
I dont know why ? I keep asking this me at times and yesterday I was confronted with this question again. Why is there a need for me to make myself available to the public. Or is it that ?
I started blogging just for the simple reason to make my presense felt in the vast ocean that we call the web. I have a small website too but that is there mainly to show my portfolio and my resume. But why blog ? and the more confusing part is, why blog when u know that probablly no one will read your blog for a long long time to come and it doesnt matter what I say or do using a blog at this point of time. It’s like a prof. teaching an empty class….
Am I just wasting my time ? I dont know but for now, I intended to carry on. Lets see what happens in the future.
