Mt Rushmore Trip
Posted by Nalin in Miscellaneous on July 4th, 2006
sucked…
The weather wasn’t all that great… it was really hot during the day and it rained the night when we camped… couldn’t go trekking cause everyone wasn’t ready. Mt Rushmore isn’t that big of a deal… many might not agree with that statement, but I was really disappointed after sitting in a car for 15 hours. Ohh… and the car… it was another experience in itself… Six people with a lot of luggage were packed tightly into a Mercury Mountaineer… On the way back we got a ticket as well…
I guess just because my experience wasn’t all that great (because of the things mentioned above… and many that I can’t mention here), I feel that the weekend was a waste… South Dakota is a nice place… it makes sense passing though SD or staying there over night when you are out on a long road trip. Making a trip to SD, doesn’t make any sense.
Hot Tub vids
Here’s another set of videos of us singing while sitting drunk in the hot tub at our cabin in Smoky Mts. Ajay, Ishaan, Rishi and I were sitting in the tub and howling away while Omid was taking the vids.

Smoky Mountains Trip
Didn’t have enough money to goto Florida, so loads of friends and I went to Smoky Mountains in Tennessee for the Spring Break. It was a fun-filled but a tiring trip. Had to sleep for more than 20/48 hrs after getting back to Chicago.
3 groups (that I know of) went to Smoky Mts from UIC this time. We were 14 people in one group and had 3 cars. It took a bit to get to Smoky Mts as we had a stop over at Indianapolis for a while. We stayed near Pigeon Forge in a cabin called The Hideout. Most of the time we were playing Pool or relaxing in Jacuzzi (hot tub). Other times we went hiking, rafting, go-karting etc.
I have here three of about thousand pics that we all clicked in total. Ill be uploading many more onto Flickr. The one below was taken in Tuckaleechee Caverns and it has the whole bunch.. Ninad, me and Ishaan on the ground, Monil, Nayan, Rahil, Siddesh, Ajay, Rishi and Kinnari at sitting on the bench and Omid, Tejas, Paresh and Sumant standing/sitting at back.
The following picture was taken on the trail to Rainbow Falls. Everyone was happy to finally sit down and rest before heading back.
This picture below has two of the three groups getting all ready for rafting. It was almost snowing that day and the wind was cold. The hands were out holding the rows and they went through the transiting of getting cold, to unbearably cold to burning… Rafting was fun cause we had a few class three and a couple of class four rapids.
A few people fell ill, few got hurt, couple got ticketed… some cars got flats and one car went into a ditch… but everyone reached back all safe and sound…
Over all the trip was a success. We had loads of fun. Freaked out as much as possible (with the little sleep that we had there).
Nalin and Friends goto NYC
Yup.. went there last weekend for a couple of days. It was good amount of fun but at the very same time very tiring. I slept the whole day when I came back to Chicago. We went and checked out quite a few places… Statue of Liberty, Staten Island Ferry, Brooklyn Bridge, WTC site, Time Square, Grand Central, Madam Tussads, Rockefeller, etc etc… There was a lot of walking involved and by the end of the day the only thing I could feel was pain in my feet… but “kutch paane ke liye kutch dena bhi padta hai”.. I stayed there at Surabhi’s place and she was nice enough not to complain about how late in the night we would get back from or NYC exploration. NYC.. is a lot like Chicago… I feel Chicago is better… much more cleaner and much more friendly people. People here smile at you for no reason at all… and also there are garbage bins at every corner… these are two things I missed the most in NYC. One thing is for sure… NYC has a much better transit system.. it’s very well connected… I feel the best place I went to was Time Square. It’s so bright, lively and colourful. Initially I thought that it was a bit too crowded, but later in the night (when there were only a few ppl on roads), I realized that the crowd also adds a charm to that place. I went there on both the days and just roamed around and clicked a lot of pictures. P.S. One thing that saved us a lot of money was to goto Mac Arthur Islip Airport in Long Island. It’s about 1hr and 25min ride from Manhattan, but these 3hrs extra spent in commuting can save you big bucks..
Trip to Wisconsin
Went with my buddies to Wisconsin Dells and Baraboo. It was fun all the time. Got to drive a Nissan Altima, which just added to the whole experience.
We visited the Devil’s Lake state park the first day and spent the time there doing trekking, boating and playing in the lake. The trekking was the best part as it gave us a spectacular view of the Lake and surrounding mountains. After that we went to Milwaukee to check out the Summerfest ‘05. It was great… 11 stages in all, packed with ppl, and great music all around. We spent the night at Kenny’s place and then moved on the next day to Noah’s ark in Wisconsin Dells. we spent the whole day there and went on almost all of the 40 rides there. It was very exhausting but we have a nice time.
Had to sleep for 15 hours to recuperate from the trip.
